RIDGESIDE K9 FOUNDATION

Uniting Our Nation's Heroes With Canines

The Ridgeside K9 Foundation takes care of those who took care of us. Giving back to those who gave so much. Addressing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and psychological trauma in our military and first responder communities. Connecting resources to help assist with emotional recovery, counseling, and life skills through our large support network.

INTRODUCTION

We are Committed To Helping Clients

PTSD is common within the military and first responder communities. Unfortunately, our heroes often self-manage without appropriate professional support. We will help with our canine companion program.  Our dogs need you, the world needs you … You Matter

As defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), service dogs are individually trained to perform specific tasks and to work with people with disabilities. According to the ADA, disabilities can be “physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability.” The work of the service dog must be directly related to the handler’s disability.

Therapy dogs play a different helping role than service dogs and emotional support animals. They aren’t trained to live with a specific handler. Rather, these are dogs that — with their human teammate (often the dog’s owner) — volunteer in clinical settings, such as hospitals, mental health institutions, hospices, schools, and nursing homes, where they provide comfort, affection, and even love in the course of their work. Therapy dogs are trained to be comfortable in new environments and to interact with different people. They should have a calm temperament, be unfazed by unfamiliar noises and movements, be comfortable being handled, and love people.

Emotional support dogs are not considered service dogs under the ADA. They may be trained for a specific owner, but they are not trained for specific tasks or duties to aid a person with a disability.  In order to be considered an emotional support dog, it must be prescribed by a mental health professional for a patient with a diagnosed psychological or emotional disorder, such as anxiety, depression, or panic attacks.

OUR CANINE SUPPORT PROGRAMS

The Programs We Provide for Our Nation's Heroes

Ridgeside K9 Foundation is dedicated to giving back to the Veteran and First Responder communities. Our warriors at home and abroad may often be overworked, underpaid, and under-appreciated with limited support networks to help deal with compounding stress and both mental and physical injuries. Our mission is simple: to give back to our nation’s heroes by uniting them with exceptional canine companions.

This is an advanced program for Veterans, First Responders, and other allies who need a fully trained service dog. RSK9F will work with the individual in need to match them with the most appropriate “Battle Buddy” based on need and lifestyle.

These dogs are sourced and assigned directly to agencies and departments in need of K9 resources.  The dogs support first responders by providing stress relief and unconditional love, while also assisting in supporting victims and families experiencing trauma.
